Harnessing the talents of PhD graduates for health system impact

Saint Elizabeth is pleased to be partnering with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) on an innovative new program that provides mentoring and on-the-job training to PhD graduates.

The Health System Impact Fellowship program gives award recipients a unique opportunity to apply their research and analytic skills to critical challenges in the health system, while gaining professional experience, new skills and networks.

Dr. Margaret Saari is one of the fellowship recipients. Starting this fall, she will work with health leaders and the Saint Elizabeth Research Centre to study and explore new ways to help patients transition from home care to community support services. Dr. Saari will receive ongoing mentorship and supervision from Dr. Paul Holyoke, Saint Elizabeth’s director of research, as well as Dr. John Hirdes at the University of Waterloo.

“At Saint Elizabeth, we are committed to investing in research and finding innovative solutions to tough problems,” said Shirlee Sharkey, CEO of Saint Elizabeth. “We would like to thank CIHR and the federal government for helping to support PhD talent and health system impact by moving knowledge into action.”

Dr. Saari’s fellowship is co-funded by CIHR’s Institutes of Health Services and Policy Research (CIHR-IHSPR) and Aging (CIHR-IA), and Saint Elizabeth Health Care.
