Sakshi Jain Wins the 2024 Michael Decter Scholarship for Health Leadership and Policy Studies

Sakshi Jain has been awarded the 2024 Michael Decter Scholarship

SE Health is excited to announce that Sakshi Jain has been awarded the 2024 Michael Decter Scholarship for Health Leadership and Policy Studies. This annual scholarship recognizes outstanding students entering graduate programs in health leadership or policy who demonstrate a strong passion for making a meaningful impact on Canadian healthcare.

The Michael Decter Scholarship honours the extraordinary contributions of Michael Decter to the healthcare sector and aims to support the next generation of health leaders who are committed to improving the health system. This year’s recipient, Sakshi Jain, embodies the values and vision that the scholarship represents.

Sakshi is a first-year PhD student in Health Systems Research at the University of Toronto’s Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation. Her research focuses on health economics, and she is particularly interested in gender, economics, and creating more equitable healthcare systems. With a Master of International Public Policy from the Balsillie School of International Affairs and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Waterloo, Sakshi’s educational background supports her commitment to evidence-based policymaking.

Her work aims to bridge complex data with accessible insights to influence decision-making and create policies that prioritize resource optimization, preventive health measures, and data-driven outcomes. Sakshi's goal is to help shape a more equitable and innovative healthcare system in Canada and globally, fostering policies that are both impactful and sustainable.

In addition to her academic accomplishments, Sakshi brings valuable professional experience to her research. In 2024, she developed the "Cost of Inaction" tool, which enables policymakers to assess the financial impacts of preventable malnutrition. She has collaborated with global organizations, including Nutrition International, UNDP Cambodia, and the Scaling Up Nutrition Movement, leading projects that assess economic outcomes, model investment cases, and inform national health strategies.

Please join us in congratulating Sakshi on this remarkable achievement. Her dedication to advancing healthcare policy and her commitment to improving lives through research and innovation make her a deserving recipient of the Michael Decter Scholarship.
