Shirlee Sharkey named Chair of Excellence Canada

The Board of Directors of Excellence Canada has appointed Shirlee Sharkey as their new Board Chair. Ms. Sharkey’s formal appointment took place today during their Annual General Meeting held at Saint Elizabeth’s head office in Markham.  

Ms. Sharkey has been the President and CEO of Saint Elizabeth since 1992. Through her leadership, the organization has enjoyed exponential growth as well as expansion throughout Canada, the United States and internationally. Nationally celebrated and locally cherished, Saint Elizabeth’s staff of 8,000+ spreads hope and happiness through people-powered care and they collectively provide upwards of 18,000 visits daily. 

Ms. Sharkey’s personal commitment to community advancement is evident in her leadership and involvement on many boards, ranging in scope from health to education. She is a sought-after speaker and a frequent contributor to Canada’s premier national newspaper, the Globe and Mail.  

In welcoming Ms. Sharkey, the board wishes to acknowledge the work of Mr. Gary Seveny, who has been Board chair for the past four years and served on the Board for over 12 years. Gary has been associated with Excellence Canada (formerly the National Quality Institute) for many years when he was President and CEO of Alterna Bank. Gary has been very instrumental in moving forward the Excellence Canada agenda. His passion for organizational excellence in general and Excellence Canada in particular, is greatly appreciated by everyone on the Board and at Excellence Canada.

Saint Elizabeth has been affiliated with Excellence Canada since 2007 and was recently awarded the Order of Excellence; their highest level of recognition.
