They will be discussing the impacts that older women have on their communities, the discrimination they face as they age, and their right to fully participate in society.

As part of our social impact work on the future of aging, SE Health is an accredited member of the United Nations Open-Ended Working Group on Ageing and one of the few Canadian organizations involved. The goal of the Working Group is to urge governments to commit to supporting a new UN convention on the human rights of older people.

A new UN convention would recognize older persons as rights holders and provide valuable guidance for governments to ensure that age discrimination is prohibited in the law, services uphold the dignity of older persons, and attitudes and behaviours towards older persons are respectful.

SE Health is attending the UN Open-Ended Working Group on Ageing April 11 to 14.
