Announcement from SE Health Board of Directors – John Yip to succeed Shirlee Sharkey as CEO

Following a rigorous selection process, I am delighted to announce that John Yip has been appointed to succeed Shirlee Sharkey as the President and CEO of SE Health, effective May 3, 2022.

John brings over 20 years of leadership experience in the health sector and is currently the President and CEO of Kensington Health, a diversified not-for-profit community-based health services provider. John’s ability to deliver impactful care to communities while remaining mission-focused with an entrepreneurial spirit is incredibly aligned with our strategic imperatives at SE Health.

As a transformative values-based leader, John will continue to advance SE Health’s vision to forever impact how people live and age at home through its business of caring, social impact, and strategic investments.  This includes providing innovative leadership in the home care space and helping to shape a new vision for aging across Canada and around the world.

“I have always admired SE Health from afar and it’s a tremendous honour to be asked to lead this amazing social enterprise,” said John. “I look forward to getting to know the SE Health team and building on the strength of its people and expertise to drive the next chapter of the organization’s growth and impact.”

John holds an MBA in health services management from McMaster University and undergraduate degrees from Dalhousie University. Prior to joining Kensington Health, he served as the Vice President of Corporate Services at Health Quality Ontario and ran his own boutique management consulting firm focused on integrated care models for vulnerable and under-served populations. John is a member of the Institute for Corporate Directors and currently serves on the board of directors for Triathlon Canada, the Centre for Effective Practice, and the Regional Geriatric Program of Toronto.

After three decades of breakthrough leadership, last November Shirlee Sharkey announced her intention to step down from SE Health and pursue new challenges and dreams. We will be watching with curious fascination to see what Shirlee’s next steps will be!

“Every day, the SE Health team demonstrates a powerful and collective commitment to bringing hope and happiness – and this has led to so many wonderful memories and tender moments over the years,” says Shirlee. “With his passion for people and community health, I know John will provide strong visionary leadership to enable the unique culture and legacy of SE Health to live on.”

Over the next several months, Shirlee and John will be working closely to ensure a smooth and effective transition, with the full support of the Board.
