Working with Purpose

As a Home or Personal Support Worker, you’re in a profession that truly makes a difference. Every day, you’re helping people who need support due to age, illness or injury. You safely assist them with daily living, improving their quality of life, and bringing hope and happiness with your efforts.

HSW vs. PSW: What’s the Difference?

Both Home Support Workers (HSWs) and Personal Support Workers (PSWs) make a positive impact in people’s lives, with much in common. There are a few key differences between Home Support Workers and Personal Support Workers:

HSWm

Home Support Worker (HSW)

HSWs work with clients who have less complicated health care needs, but who need help with daily living. HSWs often handle meals, shopping and light housekeeping while providing important companionship.
PSW

Personal Support Worker (PSW)

PSWs work with clients who have greater or more complex health care needs. For example, PSWs provide medication reminders, lifting and mobility help, and assist with bathing and personal hygiene.

Career Opportunities

Many options are available when you graduate, with a variety of work settings including hospitals, nursing homes, long term care facilities, or clients’ homes.
