Otuto Amarauche Chukwu wins the 2022 Michael Decter Scholarship for Health Leadership and Policy Studies.
SE Health is thrilled to announce that Otuto Amarauche Chukwu is the winner of the 2022 Michael Decter Scholarship for Health Leadership and Policy Studies.
Every year, the scholarship seeks high-performing students entering a first-year graduate health leadership or policy program who are passionate about making a difference in Canadian healthcare. The scholarship supports students across the country and reflects Michael Decter’s exceptional health leadership and legacy.
Otuto Amarauche Chukwu comes from Nigeria and is a PhD student in Health Policy at the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto. He is a licensed and multiple award-winning pharmacist and social impact innovator with over ten years’ experience in strengthening health systems, policy research, pharmaceutical services, and policy in sub-Saharan Africa.
Chukwu has also built his capacity in professional and global leadership through various international leadership programs. He is a fellow of the prestigious United States Government Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders; an associate fellow of the Royal Commonwealth Society; a junior fellow at Massey College; and a panelist to the World Youth Forum in Egypt.
Now in Canada, Chukwu plans to contribute more by integrating into the Canadian health policy space to advance health within and outside Canada. He is hoping to contribute to Canada’s foreign policy on health by providing a firsthand, lived, international perspective to Canada’s foreign policy and sharing in Canada’s discussions, liaisons, and relationships with the international community to address cross border health issues and more.
